Paris Saint-Germain’s proposed move for Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki has broken down unexpectedly, despite the transfer initially appearing close to completion.

The French champions had reportedly reached an agreement with Parma over a €35 million transfer fee and had also settled personal terms with Suzuki earlier in the week.

However, the deal collapsed after representatives of the Japan international made additional financial demands that PSG considered excessive.

According to reports, PSG had even arranged a private jet to take Suzuki from Italy, highlighting how advanced the negotiations had become.

The disagreement over agent commissions ultimately prevented the transfer from being completed.

The collapse represents a major setback for Suzuki, who had been on course to join one of Europe’s leading clubs. The 23-year-old, who was born in New Jersey and represents Japan internationally, remains contracted to Parma until 2029.

Suzuki joined Parma in 2024 after the Italian club paid €8.2 million to sign him from Belgian side Sint-Truiden. He has since established himself as a promising goalkeeper in Serie A.

For Parma, the failed transfer also means missing out on what would have been one of the biggest sales in the club’s history. A €35 million deal would have ranked among their four highest transfer fees received.

PSG already have Matvey Safonov and Lucas Chevalier competing for the goalkeeper position. Chevalier, however, could reportedly be available for a move after struggling to secure regular first-team football last season.

The failed negotiations now leave Suzuki’s immediate future uncertain as PSG reassess their goalkeeping options.
