Marvin Senaya Faces Months on Sidelines After World Cup Injury, Vows to Return “Stronger Than Ever”

Black Stars defender Marvin Senaya has confirmed he will undergo surgery after suffering a serious injury during Ghana’s defeat to Colombia at the 2026 FIFA World Cup — a blow that will rule him out for several months.
In an emotional message posted on Facebook on Wednesday, July 8, the 25‑year‑old Auxerre right‑back described the injury, sustained in the opening minutes of Ghana’s Round of 32 clash on July 3, as one of the most painful moments of his career.
“I don’t even know where to begin… July 3rd, 2026. Without a doubt, one of the hardest nights of my life,” he wrote.
Senaya, who made his Ghana debut earlier this year after switching allegiance from France, said he was devastated to leave the pitch early and be unable to help the Black Stars fight for a place in the Round of 16.
“First of all, we gave everything we had to take Ghana to where it belongs: at the top of the world. To the people of Ghana, we gave our all to make you proud, but unfortunately, we fell short.”
Ghana lost 1–0 to Colombia, ending their World Cup campaign. Reports indicate Senaya’s injury requires surgery and will keep him out for an extended period.
“Then came my injury in the opening minutes of the match. I wish I could have stayed on the field and helped my teammates battle until the end, but unfortunately, I had to leave the pitch,” he said.
“This injury means I need surgery, and it will keep me away from the game for a while. But believe me when I say this: I will come back stronger than you have ever seen me before.”
He added that he trusts God’s plan for his recovery: “I know that God’s plan is always good, and that He tests me only to bless me even more, in the name of Jesus.”
Senaya also expressed gratitude to his teammates, the coaching staff and Ghanaian supporters for their encouragement throughout the tournament.
“I want to congratulate and thank all my teammates and the entire coaching staff for everything we shared together, for their support, and for all our performances.”
“I also want to thank the people of Ghana who supported us from near and far. Your love and encouragement pushed us every single day to give our very best. We promise to come back stronger and make you even prouder in the future.”
He ended with a pledge to return: “Thank you for everything, and I’ll see you back on the pitch soon. Go Ghana, Go Black Stars.”
