Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has urged Members of Parliament (MPs) to comply with the laws regulating the installation and use of sirens on their official and private vehicles.

Delivering a statement on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, Mr Bagbin disclosed that his Office had received a directive from the Minister for the Interior reminding lawmakers to adhere to regulations governing the use of police resources, escort services and emergency sirens.

He stressed that MPs have a responsibility to use state resources judiciously and must operate within the confines of the law.

According to the Speaker, the directive is intended to enhance road safety and protect the interests of the general public by ensuring that emergency devices are used appropriately.

Mr Bagbin warned that any legislator who fails to comply with the directive risks having the sirens removed from his or her vehicle.

He explained that the move forms part of broader efforts to regulate the use of emergency equipment, prevent abuse of the privilege and uphold the integrity of state institutions while ensuring the safety of all road users.

The Speaker added that his Office remains available to provide clarification to any Member of Parliament who may have questions regarding the directive.
