President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday, July 21, met with the Governor of Wisconsin, Tony Evers, at the Jubilee House in Accra to discuss ways of strengthening trade and investment cooperation between Ghana and the U.S. state.

According to a statement issued by the Presidency, Governor Evers was leading a business delegation to Ghana as part of efforts to promote exports from Wisconsin, expand international trade partnerships and support the growth of the state’s industries, businesses, workforce and economy.

During the meeting, President Mahama outlined ongoing economic reforms and highlighted the renewed confidence of investors in Ghana’s economy.

He noted that following the successful completion of Ghana’s International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout programme, the country had regained economic stability and was once again open to investment.

The President also highlighted key government initiatives, including the 24-hour Economy programme, which is aimed at boosting production, promoting manufacturing and industrialisation, creating jobs and accelerating economic growth.

He further disclosed that the government had established an Accelerated Export Development Advisory Committee to drive Ghana’s transition into an export-led economy.

President Mahama expressed Ghana’s interest in strengthening collaboration with Wisconsin in the agricultural sector and said the government was ready to explore additional investment and business opportunities with the U.S. state.

He also briefed Governor Evers and the visiting delegation on government policies aimed at expanding access to education and developing the skilled workforce needed to support Ghana’s long-term development.

For his part, Governor Evers said the trade mission was intended to strengthen global partnerships while promoting Wisconsin as an attractive destination for businesses seeking to expand internationally.

The meeting was attended by Senior Legal Advisor to the President, Marietta Agyeiwaa Brew; Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Smith; and the Chief Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Khadija Iddrisu.
