Real Madrid Send Mastantuono to Fiorentina on Season-Long Loan
Real Madrid youngster Franco Mastantuono has completed a loan move to Italian side Fiorentina, giving the highly rated Argentine midfielder an opportunity to gain more playing experience away from Spain.
Fiorentina confirmed the temporary transfer on Friday, with Mastantuono expected to remain at the Serie A club for the 2026/27 season.
The move comes after the 18-year-old found it difficult to establish himself as a regular starter at Real Madrid during his first campaign with the Spanish giants.
Mastantuono arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu last summer from River Plate in a deal worth more than €63 million.
His reputation had grown rapidly in Argentina, where he became one of River Plate’s standout young players and earned a place in the national team at just 17 years and nine months.
Despite his limited starting opportunities in Madrid, the teenager featured 35 times across competitions last season and contributed three goals.
However, competition for places at Real Madrid meant that consistent playing time was difficult to secure.
His absence from Argentina’s World Cup squad also highlighted the need for regular football as he continues his development.
The loan spell at Fiorentina could therefore prove important for Mastantuono. Playing regularly in Serie A would allow him to gain experience, improve his consistency and continue developing into the player Real Madrid believe he can become.
Fiorentina will hope his creativity and attacking ability can make a significant impact during his season in Italy.
