Barcelona have called off their planned pre-season meeting with Moroccan side Ittihad Riadi Tangier, citing uncertainty surrounding the current situation in the region.

The Spanish champions were scheduled to face the Moroccan club in Tangier on August 15 as part of their preparations for the upcoming campaign.

However, Barcelona announced that the fixture would no longer take place, saying the circumstances made it inappropriate to continue with the arrangement.

Although the club did not provide extensive details, reports have linked the decision to tensions surrounding Ceuta, a Spanish territory located on Morocco’s northern coast.

The area has recently experienced increased migrant crossings, adding to existing diplomatic and security concerns.

The situation has attracted attention from European authorities, with thousands of migrants reportedly crossing into the Spanish enclave.

While some have returned to Morocco, a significant number remain in Ceuta as officials continue to address the humanitarian situation.

The cancellation represents another disruption to Barcelona’s pre-season schedule. The Catalan giants had already lost another friendly against Preston North End following changes to their training arrangements in Britain.

Despite the setbacks, Hansi Flick’s squad is expected to continue its preparations through other scheduled fixtures. Barcelona are due to face Nottingham Forest in Udine before taking on Egyptian club Al Ahly on August 19.

The team will then turn its attention to the new La Liga campaign, with Barcelona set to begin their title defence against Elche on August 23.
