Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has declared that President Bola Tinubu is beatable in the 2027 presidential election, predicting that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will finish last in the contest.

Adebayo made the declaration on Tuesday during an interview on Channels Television, where he dismissed suggestions that Tinubu’s incumbency and political structure could make him difficult to defeat.

The SDP candidate argued that no government could remain in power against the wishes of Nigerians, insisting that the electorate would ultimately determine the outcome of the election through their votes.

He said those describing Tinubu and the APC as unbeatable were underestimating the power of Nigerian voters, particularly amid concerns over poverty and insecurity.

“Those people are insulting Nigerians. You cannot be in government if Nigerians vote against you. My job is to talk to Nigerian people. We say enough is enough to poverty and insecurity. We believe in it, we vote for it. APC will come last because we will have to count how many thumbprints you get,” Adebayo said.

He expressed confidence that voters would reject inducements if they remained focused on the economic and security challenges confronting the country.

According to him, Nigerians must look beyond immediate material benefits and consider the long-term consequences of another four years under the same administration.

“If people are not collecting rice and money from them, if you focus on what you need to save this generation from perpetual poverty and insecurity, realising that we cannot afford four more years of this same thing because our generation has been stressed to the eyeballs, we will win by God’s grace,” he said.

Adebayo also outlined agriculture as a major pillar of his policy agenda, arguing that Nigeria possesses enough agricultural resources to feed not only its population but also become a major food supplier to other African countries.

“We are a nation that has the capacity to feed the whole of Africa within a period of three years. There is no investment in agriculture,” he said.

On the contentious issue of fuel subsidy, the SDP candidate challenged the conventional description of subsidy, arguing that it should be understood as a government financial arrangement rather than the commodity itself.

“Subsidy is an account in government. Subsidy is not petrol. Subsidy will fail anytime you have no control over the supply,” he said.
