Social media erupted in a volcanic frenzy stemming from comments made by Demilade Alejo better known by his rap moniker Ycee. The 2 hit wonder bared his mind on the Afropolitan Podcast and opined that part of the problem with Nigeria was due to not only yahoo culture as chipped in by one of the hosts but by what he called *Peller Culture” creating an Olodo Uprising.

Listening to Ycee you will have to give it to him that’s he’s fairly articulate which shows he passed through school and not the reverse. On the flip side he goofed into not holding himself accountable for contributing to the ogre which he contributed to it’s birth while having chart success and mainstream music appeal.

Walk on memory lane and recite the lyrics to the song “Jagaban” the debut single of the rapper. Released in 2015 on Tinny Entertainment the song gained traction thanks to it’s easy to remember lyrics and braggadocio posturing to match the lyrics, Ycee was amped professing to his cool status with luxury living smelling like expensive perfume.

There was no sign of any intellectual subject matter on the song (don’t get me started of the lyrics which sounded corny like the cheesy dialogue of a poorly written and miscast Nollywood flick).

His second single “Juice* a catchy, keep the party going melody contained lyrics immune from educative or socially significant content in the song.

With zero lyrics on socio economic issues, relationships, the politics of the street to him as an observer Ycee was certainly not informing minds and completion of his university education was not his top priority as he failed to graduate from the University of Lagos where he gained admission to study Marine Biology.

The lingering question ;is Ycee an Olodo for dropping out of university wanting to focus on the music career which he succeeded in failing to learn the business aspect of resulting in him not making money from his music nor owing the masters and publishing to the music he recorded and performed to the cheers of groupies and fans?

The question packs too much juice and too much sauce.
