Former Arsenal and Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri has reportedly been questioned by French authorities as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged money laundering linked to an organised drug trafficking network.

According to reports from France, the former footballer was taken into police custody for questioning and spent around 10 hours with investigators before being released on Thursday evening.

No charges have been filed against him, and authorities have not announced any formal legal action at this stage.

The investigation is reportedly being handled by the Financial Investigation and Research Brigade (BRIF), which is examining suspected financial activities connected to individuals allegedly involved in organised crime.

Nasri is said to have been questioned over his previous business interests, particularly his former ownership stake in the XS nightclub.

The case is believed to involve Hakim Berrebouh, a convicted drug trafficker from Marseille, and his associate, Olivier Sabbah. Berrebouh, who was arrested in Dubai before being extradited to France in 2021, is currently serving a prison sentence.

Although Nasri has been released without charges, reports indicate that investigators could invite him back for further questioning as the inquiry continues.

French authorities have yet to provide additional details about the former footballer’s exact role in the investigation.

Nasri enjoyed a successful playing career, rising through the ranks at Marseille before joining Arsenal in 2008. After three seasons in North London, he completed a high-profile move to Manchester City, where he won two Premier League titles.

The 41-cap former France international retired from professional football after spells with clubs across England, Spain, Turkey and Belgium.
