I have not resigned from Black Stars coaching role - Carlos Queiroz

Veteran Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz has dismissed reports suggesting that he has resigned as head coach of Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, following their elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 73-year-old trainer sparked speculation after a recent social media post in which he expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to lead Ghana at the global tournament.

The message was widely interpreted as an indication that he had stepped away from the role, despite his contract running until August.

The Black Stars, making their fifth appearance at the World Cup, were eliminated at the last-32 stage after suffering defeat to Colombia. Ghana had earlier finished third in their group to progress to the knockout phase.

Following the team’s exit, Queiroz thanked Ghanaians for the support and reflected on his time in charge, prompting widespread reports that he had left the position.

However, the experienced coach has now rejected those claims, insisting that his message was only an expression of gratitude.

“I didn’t resign. I sent a message of gratitude,” he said in a viral social media video with a fan.

Queiroz took charge of the Black Stars on a four-month contract after replacing Otto Addo, with the agreement expected to be reviewed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) based on the team’s performance at the World Cup.
