Desmond Ofei names Black Meteors squad for U-23 AFCON qualifiers
Black Meteors head coach Desmond Ofei has unveiled his squad for Ghana’s upcoming U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign.
The selected players are expected to begin camping in Accra on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, as preparations intensify ahead of the qualifiers scheduled for the September/October international window.
The locally based contingent has been instructed to report to the Erata Hotel in East Legon at 4:00 pm to commence the initial phase of training.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is expected to make separate arrangements for foreign-based U-23 players who will join the squad later.
Ghana will not participate in the opening round of the U-23 AFCON qualifiers after receiving a bye and will enter the competition in October. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is yet to announce the pairings for the qualifying fixtures.
The squad, which comprises players from Ghana Premier League and Division One League clubs, will form the foundation of the Black Meteors team as Ofei begins the process of building a side capable of competing for continental honours.
The qualification campaign also carries added significance, as the U-23 AFCON qualifiers will serve as the pathway to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, where Ghana will be aiming to secure a return to the global sporting stage.
