The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Inspector-General of Police to investigate and prosecute Abayomi Hunye for allegedly impersonating the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election.

The party made the demand in a petition signed by its Director of Administration, Ayoola Olajolo, and made available to journalists on Tuesday in Abuja.

In the petition, Olajolo accused Hunye of using print and social media platforms to allegedly present himself as the APC’s governorship candidate in Ogun, describing the development as a “grave threat” to public peace and electoral integrity.

He urged the police authorities to invite Hunye for questioning and prosecute him if found culpable of impersonation, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and alleged violations of the Electoral Act, 2026.

According to Olajolo, Hunye’s alleged activities were “false, fraudulent, and a deliberate act of impersonation” capable of misleading members of the public and causing instability in the state.

The APC official further disclosed that Hunye was suspended from the party on April 7, 2026, following a petition submitted by his ward in Ipokia Local Government Area.

He said the Ogun State Working Committee subsequently ratified the suspension and communicated it to the party’s national headquarters.

Olajolo said the suspension followed allegations of anti-party activities and actions allegedly intended to cause disaffection among APC members.

He maintained that the party had conducted a valid governorship primary and that the only candidates recognised by the APC for the 2027 Ogun governorship election were Senator Adeola Olamilekan and Balogun Kudirat Abiodun.

“Our party conducted a valid primary election, and the only recognised governorship candidates for the APC in Ogun are Sen. Adeola Olamilekan and Balogun Kudirat Abiodun,” he said.

He identified Olamilekan as the party’s governorship candidate and Kudirat as the deputy governorship candidate.

The APC urged the Inspector-General of Police to direct the appropriate police authorities to investigate Hunye’s alleged activities and prevent him from further parading himself as the party’s candidate.

Olajolo warned that allowing the alleged impersonation to continue could mislead the electorate and potentially trigger a breakdown of law and order in Ogun.

He assured the police of the cooperation of the APC’s national headquarters and Ogun State chapter, adding that the party was ready to provide witness statements and other relevant information required for the investigation.
