We haven’t received official resignation letter from Carlos Queiroz despite social media post – Sports Minister reveals
The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, says he has not received any official resignation letter from Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz, despite the Portuguese coach’s recent social media post suggesting he had stepped away from the role.
Queiroz, 73, who was appointed on a short-term contract to lead Ghana’s national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, appeared to announce his departure after the tournament, stating that he “leaves his role with pride” in a message shared online.
However, speaking to Joy News, Kofi Adams insisted that the government would only recognise formal communication regarding the coach’s position and not a statement made on social media.
“We have not received any resignation letter from the FA to that effect, and I don’t take it that people resigned on social media. He wasn’t appointed on social media, so I don’t think that he resigned via social media,” the Minister said.
Adams added that Queiroz is expected to submit a detailed technical report on his short spell with the Black Stars, including the team’s preparations, performances, and challenges encountered during the World Cup campaign.
“We have all been watching the games, and so we all appreciate that. We have not had the opportunity to engage him to get a detailed report. That report will surely come,” he said.
The Minister explained that the report would help identify both technical and administrative challenges affecting the national team and guide future decisions concerning the Black Stars.
He also backed Queiroz’s comments that Ghana’s football revival requires attention beyond performances on the pitch, stressing the importance of addressing wider structural issues.
“And he’s right when he says it’s not just going to be on the pitch. There are off-pitch issues, and there are on-pitch issues also. I’m happy he has stated it clearly,” he said.
The Black Stars exited the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in their Round of 32 encounter.
Despite reaching the knockout stage for the first time since 2010, Ghana’s campaign ended prematurely, with the team now turning attention to preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
