Dotun Oladipo, the founder and publisher of The Eagle Online, has passed away at the age of 56. The veteran journalist died on Tuesday after falling ill suddenly at his office in Lagos .

According to reports, Oladipo drove himself to a hospital for emergency medical attention but passed away a few hours later. His death was confirmed by the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), an organization he previously led as president.

The President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), Danlami Nmodu, officially announced the tragic passing on the guild’s communication platform on Tuesday night. In his message to members, Nmodu confirmed the death of the former leader, referring to him as “Emeritus President, Mr. Dotun Oladipo,” and offered prayers for his soul to rest in peace.

Beyond his leadership at GOCOP, Oladipo was also the founding president of the Innovative Media Partners Cooperative Multipurpose Society (IMPCMS). His death has deeply affected multiple professional bodies within the media and corporate sectors where he served.

The General Secretary of IMPCMS, Nkanu Egbe, formally released a statement on Wednesday morning to convey the collective grief of the cooperative. The statement officially marked the sudden loss of their leader, who was highly respected across the industry.

The official release noted that Oladipo passed away in Lagos on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the age of 56. The announcement has triggered widespread condolences from journalists and media executives across the country.
