The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, alongside the party’s vice-presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has held a strategic meeting with the party’s governorship candidates from the North-East and North-West ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The high-level meeting, held at Kwankwaso’s residence in Maitama, Abuja, focused on strengthening the party’s preparations and developing coordinated strategies for the 2027 elections.

Those who attended included the NDC governorship candidates for Bauchi, Sokoto and Borno states—Barrister Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim, Dr Shamsu Aliyu and Admiral Sunusi Sir Kashim Ibrahim (retd.), respectively.

Also present at the meeting were a former National Chairman of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, Buba Galadima; the NDC chairmen in Kebbi and Sokoto states, Alhaji Mustapha Umar and Alhaji Bello Sani Yabo, respectively, as well as other party leaders.

According to a statement issued by Theo Abu Agada, Director of New Media and Strategic Communications for the NDC, the meeting provided an opportunity for the party’s leadership and candidates to assess their level of preparedness for the 2027 general elections.

The participants also deliberated on campaign strategies aimed at ensuring greater coordination among the party’s candidates and structures across the northern states.

The meeting placed particular emphasis on coordinated campaigns and mobilisation efforts intended to secure victory for the NDC’s candidates at various levels of the 2027 elections.

The engagement comes as political parties intensify their preparations for the 2027 elections, with the NDC seeking to consolidate its structures and build a formidable campaign network across the country.
