Troops operating under Sector 1 of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) have dealt a significant blow to insurgent logistics networks following the interception and arrest of a suspected terrorist courier in the Lake Chad Basin. The successful operation, conducted during a routine patrol in the Dougoum Silio area of the Logone river corridor, resulted in the recovery of a massive cache of approximately 21,000 rounds of 7.62 × 39 mm ammunition. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Moussa Goudja, was apprehended while attempting to smuggle the lethal cargo to Ambdego using three specialized containers deceptively modified to look like petroleum-product carriers.

This major operational breakthrough was achieved through the sharp vigilance and swift execution of personnel from the National Gendarmerie stationed at Hilé-Alifa in Cameroon’s Far North Region. Commending the sector’s security forces, MNJTF Force Commander Major General S.T. Audu emphasized that the interception successfully choked off a critical supply line intended to reinforce terrorist factions in the region. The suspect has since been handed over to national security agencies for deep interrogation as the joint military command intensifies its intelligence-led operations to completely dismantle cross-border smuggling corridors across the Lake Chad Basin.

Multinational Joint Task Force Lt-Col Iweha Onyenonachi said the suspect, identified as Moussa Goudja, 30, was arrested on 10 August 2026 while in possession of three containers disguised as petroleum-product containers, containing approximately 21,000 rounds of 7.62 × 39 mm ammunition.

He said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect was transporting the ammunition for onward delivery to Ambdego, where he was intercepted.

The suspected courier has been transferred to a national security agency, where he remains in custody undergoing interrogation. Officials are using this window to extract actionable intelligence regarding the suspect’s broader trafficking network, suppliers, and intended final delivery points. This ongoing investigation is part of a wider effort to trace the financial and material pipelines fueling regional instability.

Major General S.T. Audu, the Force Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), strongly commended the Cameroonian security forces under Sector 1 for their vigilance and tactical precision. He noted that the successful operation effectively neutralized a severe threat by choking off a massive ammunition shipment destined for active terrorist cells. By stopping these 21,000 rounds from reaching their destination, the intervention directly prevented potential large-scale attacks on both military positions and civilian communities.

Reaffirming the MNJTF’s strategic vision, Major General Audu emphasized that the task force will continue to scale up intelligence-led operations across the Lake Chad Basin. He pledged to deepen operational cooperation with various national security agencies to completely deny hostile groups any freedom of movement. Through these tightened border controls and aggressive logistics disruptions, the joint command aims to permanently break the back of insurgent networks and restore lasting peace to the region.

“Terrorists logistics couriers and their sponsors are warned to desist forth with as the long arms of the law will apprehend them, no matter the disguise employed,” he said.

He noted further urged all sectors to intensify patrols and clearance operations to disrupt all terrorists networks, secure the Lake Chad Basin area to enhance peace and security in the region.
