The Ogoni Central Indigenous Authority (OCIA) expresses profound disappointment and alarm over your recent publication titled “HYPREP Begins Orientation For 300 Ogoni Youths in Professional Mud Logging Training,” updated July 16, 2026. We ask a simple question: Where is the evidence? How does Channels Television “update” a story about an event that never occurred? Why used the name of the World Environmental Martyr: Ken Saro-Wiwa in vain?

Your report creates the false impression that a major operational shift is underway in Ogoniland. This is not only inaccurate but deeply provocative. There was no such event, no credible indication of such a programme, and no legitimate basis for the claims presented in your so called updated report. At a time when Ogoniland is experiencing heightened tension over rumours of military invasion for oil production resumption; your publication irresponsibly fuels a dangerous narrative — one that suggests covert preparations.

This is not journalism. It is crude propaganda.
In a region with a long and painful history — where misinformation has repeatedly been used to justify violence, environmental devastation, and ongoing genocidal crisis and escalating climate crimes — your publication is not a minor error. It is an act of recklessness, complicity, and reputational self-destruction. It feeds into the same rogue machinery that has historically undermined the very idea of a Nigerian state project.

Your report attempts to cloak itself in the language of “livelihood restoration” and “technical capacity building,” yet the underlying message is unmistakable: to subtly condition the public into believing that oil operations are quietly being revived in Ogoniland. This is unacceptable and shameful.

THE POSITION OF THE OGONI GOVERNMENT IS CLEAR:
• We do not recognize HYPREP, a conduit pipe for fraud and deception.

• Your publication is misleading, inflammatory, harmful, and suggests collusion.

Channels Television owes the public — and the Ogoni people in particular — a higher standard of integrity. Journalism must not become a tool for propaganda, nor a mouthpiece for unaccountable interests seeking to distort reality for ulterior motives.

WE DEMAND THE FOLLOWING:
1. Immediate retraction of the misleading report.
2. A public clarification acknowledging the inaccuracies and the harm caused.

3. A commitment to responsible reporting on sensitive issues affecting the Distinct Ogoni Nation (DON).

We will not allow misinformation to be used as a gateway for renewed bloodshed. The Ogoni government is rooted in truth, justice, and transparency, and cannot be distracted by feebleminded irritants. But, be aware, that we will hold your outlet accountable for any attempt to distort facts or manufacture narratives to incite riots in Ogoniland.

Channels Television must decide whether it stands for credible journalism or for the propagation of dangerous falsehoods. The world is watching.
