NFF Removes Super Falcons Technical Crew After World Cup Setback
The Nigeria Football Federation has ordered the Super Falcons’ technical crew to leave their positions following the team’s disappointing results and failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The decision was taken by the NFF Executive Committee on Monday as the federation responded to a difficult period for the nine-time African champions.
The national team endured a disappointing campaign at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where they failed to reach the semi-finals.
Nigeria’s tournament ended in the quarter-finals after a narrow defeat to Cameroon. The early exit represented a major setback for a side that has traditionally dominated women’s football on the continent and had been expected to challenge for another continental title.
The consequences extended beyond the continental competition, as the result meant the Falcons lost the opportunity to secure an automatic place at the next Women’s World Cup.
They were subsequently required to pursue another route through the African playoff stage.
That route also ended unsuccessfully when Nigeria suffered a 2-1 defeat against South Africa’s Banyana Banyana.
The loss confirmed that the Falcons would miss the 2027 World Cup in Brazil, adding further pressure to the team’s leadership and technical structure.
The federation’s latest move is therefore expected to usher in changes around the national team as officials assess what went wrong.
The Falcons will need to rebuild and prepare for future international assignments after a campaign that fell well below expectations.
The NFF is yet to announce the next technical arrangement for the team, but the immediate dismissal signals the federation’s determination to respond to the recent setbacks and seek a new direction for the Super Falcons.
