In the wake and aftermath of Covid-19 pandemic, the honest public sharing of the secrets and usages of herbs has become the norm. This has been facilitated by the easy access to the internet and social media.

In decades and centuries ago, the Ghanaian forefathers withheld their knowledge about, and uses of, certain herbs for medicinal purposes, from their own family members let alone, the public. However, they used them to treat the sick at no cost or at a negligible fee. They usually collected an egg or two or three as their fee for healing or treating the sick using their herbs.

In those days, their medicinal herbs were very effective. They were unadulterated but pure, unlike most of today’s. They were not in the business for wealth but to heal the sick. However, in today’s Ghana, most of the people with knowledge about medicinal herbs are in for money hence destroying the effectiveness of the herbs through adulterations and fakeness.

With that said, I salute the current disclosure and free sharing of ideas about herbs, their preparations, and usages to treat or heal specific diseases and illnesses, by some modern-day Ghanaian herbalists.

I love their revelations and names of the herbs, what they are used for and how to use them. They audio visually explain them on camera captured on YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, and other social media outlets. That is great!

Nevertheless, I call for an alliance of these people with knowledge about herbs and are sharing them freely as observed on social media. If they pull their knowledge and resources together, work on the various herbs they demonstrate, as a group, they will be able to come out with a few but most effective herbal drugs that can really cure diseases and illnesses much better.

Many caring herbalists may be showing and explaining their own herbs for curing diabetes. Which of such various herbs are most effective, and which one should a diabetic patient go for?

The more many different herbs are introduced for curing the same disease by various herbalists, the more confused and uncertain people become. However, if there was an alliance of herbalists and they present one or two different herbs, explain how to use them to cure the same disease, the herbs will not only be effective, but the confusion and uncertainty built in the minds of people will be reduced, if not removed completely.

For the usual adulteration of some herbal drugs, I will advise their users not to shun any conventional medicines a doctor may have prescribed for them for their specific illness but to use them side by side with the herbal drugs for the same ailment. This is because of some cases I am privy to where the patients totally did away with their conventional medicines to take to the herbal drugs, only to end up dead within three to six months.

Those dead were using the herbal drugs to cure their diabetes only to end up having severe health complications, thus, kidney failure, swollen feet, and bloated stomach with difficulty to pass water.

An alliance of herbalists can subject their herbs to rigorous test and trial before suggesting them freely to the public. This will avoid the situations of those relying on their usage dying much earlier when they do away with their conventional medicines.

I tip my hat to all those herbalists or people showing the public their herbs, how to prepare and use them, free of charge.
