Bradley Barcola could wear the No. 29 shirt if he completes his proposed move from Paris Saint-Germain to Liverpool, with the number carrying a deeply personal meaning for the French forward.

The shirt number is reportedly not a random choice for Barcola.

Instead, it is linked to his childhood memories of playing FIFA and the popular “The Journey” story mode featured in the game.

The mode followed the fictional footballer Alex Hunter as he attempted to establish himself as a professional player. For Barcola, the game played an unexpected role in shaping his connection with the number 29.

The Liverpool target previously explained that he regularly played FIFA when he was younger and became attached to the number while playing as Alex Hunter.

“When I was younger, I used to play FIFA. In the story mode with Alex Hunter, this number became symbolic for me,” Barcola said.

The forward revealed that he made a personal promise to himself that he would use the number once he became a professional footballer.

“I thought to myself: ‘The day I go pro, it’ll be number 29.’ I adopted it, and now I’ll never let it go,” he added.

Barcola has since maintained his attachment to the number throughout his professional career, making it a significant part of his football identity.

Should his move to Liverpool be completed, wearing No. 29 at Anfield would therefore represent more than simply choosing a squad number.
