President Bola Tinubu has described the Hausa people as “great pillars” who play a vital role in promoting the unity and progress of Nigeria.

Tinubu stated this in a message shared on his X handle on Wednesday to commemorate Hausa Day, which is being celebrated at the historic Daura Palace in Katsina State.

The President also highlighted the growing influence of the Hausa language, describing it as a major language of unity and commerce both in Nigeria and across the world.

He said, “The Hausa people are great pillars that play a vital role in the unity and progress of Nigeria.

“The Hausa language, without doubt, has flourished and has become a major language of unity and commerce across the world.

“I congratulate the vast Hausa community on the occasion of Hausa Day, which is being celebrated at the historic Daura Palace today.”

Hausa Day, also known as World Hausa Day or Ranar Hausa, is observed annually on August 26 to celebrate the Hausa language, culture and heritage.

The observance began as a social media initiative by Nigerian journalist Abdulbaki Aliyu Jari, aimed at promoting the use of Hausa online and raising awareness of its cultural significance.

Over the years, Hausa Day has grown beyond social media, with celebrations spreading across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas.

Despite its growing international recognition, Hausa Day has yet to receive formal recognition from the United Nations.
