Fresh Crisis Brews In Obi-Kwankwaso Movement As DG Resigns
Fresh crisis may be brewing within the Obi-Kwankwaso (OK) Movement following the resignation of its Director-General, High Chief Peter Ameh, barely months ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ameh announced his resignation with immediate effect on Tuesday in Abuja, citing the need to concentrate on his campaign for the Kogi East Senatorial District under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a letter announcing his decision, the former DG said his resignation would enable him to devote the necessary time and energy to his senatorial ambition.
“I hereby formally tender my resignation as Director-General of the OK Movement, effective immediately.
“This decision will enable me to devote the necessary time and energy to my campaign for the Kogi East Senatorial District, where I am the candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC,” he said.
Ameh, however, stressed that his decision did not amount to a withdrawal of his support for the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, whom he described as his leader.
He said he remained committed to the ideals of the movement and would accept whoever Obi chooses to appoint as his successor.
“I humbly accept any individual appointed by my leader to succeed me in this role,” Ameh said.
He also expressed appreciation to Obi for what he described as his exemplary leadership, integrity and credibility, noting that those qualities inspired the formation and continued vision of the OK Movement.
“I remain firmly committed to the ideals that united us and wish the OK Movement every success in its future endeavours,” he added.
Ameh’s resignation comes against the backdrop of an earlier leadership dispute within the NDC hierarchy, with some members openly challenging his leadership and attempting to establish rival structures.
