Ejuke Strikes Off the Bench as Sevilla Cruise Past Athletic Bilbao

By Okiki Oluwasegun

Nigerian international Chidera Ejuke was among the goalscorers as Sevilla cruised to a comfortable 3-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao in their latest LaLiga fixture on Saturday.

The visitors were handed an early advantage when Athletic Bilbao had Yuri Berchiche sent off just 11 minutes into the contest, leaving the home side to play the majority of the match a man down.

Sevilla wasted little time capitalizing on their numerical edge, taking the lead through Oso in the 15th minute.

Ejuke entered the fray at the start of the second half, coming on as a substitute for Miguel Ángel Sierra, and immediately made his presence felt.

The Nigerian forward extended Sevilla’s lead in the 50th minute, converting a chance created by Isaac Romero to put the visitors two goals clear.

Romero then got on the scoresheet himself just seven minutes later, netting Sevilla’s third goal of the afternoon and effectively putting the match beyond Athletic Bilbao’s reach.

The hosts did manage to find some late consolation, with Aitor Paredes pulling one back in the 70th minute, though it did little to change the overall outcome of the contest.

Sevilla will look to carry this attacking momentum into their next league fixture, where they are set to welcome Atletico Madrid.

Athletic Bilbao, meanwhile, face an even tougher assignment as they travel to take on Barcelona in their upcoming match, hoping to bounce back from this disappointing result on home soil.
