Eastern Region: GH¢350,000 worth of property lost in Ankaase domestic fire
Property worth an estimated GH¢350,000 has been destroyed following a domestic fire outbreak at Ankaase SDA New Town in the Atiwa East District of the Eastern Region.
The fire, which occurred during the early hours of Monday, July 6, affected a six-bedroom apartment and displaced 12 occupants.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), firefighters from the Anyinam Fire Station responded swiftly to the incident and managed to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby properties.
The GNFS said the firefighting team, led by ASTNO David Senyo Ashiagbor, arrived at the scene to find the entire apartment fully engulfed in flames.
“Through a prompt and coordinated firefighting operation, the blaze was brought under control and completely extinguished, preventing its spread to nearby properties,” the service said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
The Service said no injuries or fatalities were recorded, adding that preliminary investigations indicated that the fire was first detected on the ceiling of the corridor before rapidly spreading throughout the building.
The incident destroyed the six-bedroom apartment and several household items, including refrigerators, television sets, mattresses, ceiling fans, standing fans, a gas oven and gas cylinders.
“The estimated cost of damage was GH¢350,000,” the GNFS said.
The GNFS urged the public to observe fire safety measures to prevent domestic fire outbreaks and reduce the risk of loss of lives and property.
