Bomb Blast Kills Two In Zamfara

By Damilare Adeleye

Two civilians have been killed after a motorcycle reportedly triggered an improvised explosive device (IED) along the Gurusu–Gwashi road in Bukuyyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The incident occurred at about 8:04am on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, according to security analyst, Zagazola Makama.

Makama said troops of the 1 Brigade, operating from the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Gwashi, were deployed to the scene following reports of the explosion.

He said preliminary investigations indicated that the motorcycle had triggered the explosive device while moving along the road.

“The blast claimed the lives of a male and a female,” Makama said, adding that the remains of the victims were recovered from the scene.

The bodies were subsequently evacuated to Bukuyyum General Hospital for further necessary action.

Following the explosion, troops reportedly intensified their presence and surveillance around the area to forestall further attacks and restrict the movement of suspected terrorists.

The incident has heightened security concerns along the route, amid continued efforts by security forces to prevent attacks and dismantle terrorist networks operating in parts of Zamfara State.
