Aston Villa agree €55m deal for PSG winger Ibrahim Mbaye

By Okiki Oluwasegun

Aston Villa have reached an agreement in principle with Paris Saint-Germain to sign highly rated winger Ibrahim Mbaye in a deal worth €55 million, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

The transfer is now in the process of being finalised, with the 18-year-old expected to make the move to the Premier League once the remaining formalities are completed.

Mbaye has emerged as one of the most promising young talents from PSG’s academy and has already gained first-team experience despite his age.

The teenager is capable of operating on either wing and has attracted interest from several European clubs.

Aston Villa’s move represents a major investment in the young winger, who was previously linked with a number of top clubs.

Liverpool were among the teams reported to have shown interest in Mbaye, but Villa have now moved ahead of the competition and reached an agreement with PSG.

The relationship between Villa owner Nassef Sawiris and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is understood to have played an important role in helping negotiations progress and ultimately reach an agreement.

Mbaye’s potential arrival would give Unai Emery another exciting attacking option as Villa continue to strengthen their squad.
