Former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo has revealed that her late father, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, predicted the family disputes, divisions and legal battles that would follow his death.

According to her, the founder of Kristo Asafo Mission and Kantanka Group repeatedly warned her about challenges that lay ahead months before his passing, although the family initially did not take his warnings seriously.

Adwoa Safo made the revelation when she and other family members paid a courtesy visit to NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia at his residence to thank him for attending her late father’s thanksgiving service.

“My father said it before dying. Everything that happened, it followed in sequence. None of the prophecies didn’t even fail,” she said.

She recalled that while her father was on his sickbed, he spoke directly to her about a major challenge he believed she would face.

Awo, there is a big battle ahead of you. I know you will be able to fight and win.

According to Adwoa Safo, her father also predicted that the church would become divided and that members of the family and church would take sides.

She said the family only came to fully understand his warnings after his death, when disagreements and disputes began to emerge.

Adwoa Safo credited her father’s guidance and wisdom with helping her navigate the challenges that followed his death.

She also explained that part of the disagreement surrounding the funeral was linked to Akan customary practices, particularly the role of the matrilineal family in burial arrangements.

According to her, as a member of the matrilineal side of the family, her maternal relatives traditionally had responsibility for arranging her father’s burial.

“I had to consistently tell people it is the matrilineal family that is in charge of the burial, even though people were telling me I am the child and supposed to bury my father,” she said.

The funeral arrangements became a source of tension between Adwoa Safo and her brother, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I, who is now the leader of the church.

The disagreement resulted in legal battles, injunctions and a reported shooting incident as tensions within the family escalated.

Despite an injunction sought by Akofena to prevent the funeral from proceeding, Adwoa Safo went ahead with the organisation of their father’s funeral.

She maintained that her actions were guided by her understanding of the customary responsibilities surrounding the burial and the warnings her father had given her before his death.
