A former National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ralph Nwosu, has disclosed that the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is prepared to make a binding commitment to Nigerians on the price of petrol if elected president in 2027.

Nwosu made the disclosure on Thursday while appearing as a guest on Daybreak, an Arise Television programme.

According to him, Atiku’s campaign will go beyond making broad promises, as the former vice president is expected to present Nigerians with specific details of his proposed petroleum pricing policy and other economic measures.

Atiku has repeatedly pledged to reverse the removal of petrol subsidy by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, arguing that the policy has worsened the economic hardship facing Nigerians.

The position has triggered criticism from the Federal Government and supporters of the Tinubu administration, who have accused Atiku of taking a contradictory position on subsidy after previously supporting its removal.

However, Nwosu insisted that Atiku would provide clarity on his proposed approach, including what Nigerians should expect to pay for petrol under his administration.

He said the former vice president would make a clear commitment before assuming office if elected.

“Atiku will sign a contract. We will soon launch our campaign proper. We are just beginning the bonfire,” Nwosu said.

The former ADC chairman also revealed that the party had commenced work on the policies Atiku would seek to implement within his first 100 days in office.

He explained that the preparation was aimed at ensuring that the campaign would be based on concrete and achievable programmes rather than promises without implementation frameworks.

“Atiku’s campaign is already sitting down to work on his first 100th day in office, so that we don’t go ahead making reckless statements,” he added.
