Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has commended former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, for her role in ensuring that the funeral of her late father, Apostle Emeritus Professor Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, proceeded despite challenges surrounding the arrangements.

Dr Bawumia described Ms Adwoa Safo as a woman of strength, noting that she stood firm amid the controversies that emerged before the funeral.

He made the remarks on August 21, 2026, when the family of the late Kristo Asafo Church leader paid a courtesy call on him to thank him for attending the funeral.

“The issues that came up got us all worried, but I want to commend you for standing up to conduct the funeral. Thank you for what you did. They say you are a woman of strength.”

The funeral of the late Apostle Safo had been preceded by a legal dispute within the family.

One of his sons, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, went to court seeking an injunction to prevent the funeral from taking place. The case generated public attention and controversy.

Despite the legal challenge, the funeral eventually went ahead.

Dr Bawumia’s comments came as the family expressed appreciation for his presence at the funeral and his support during the period.
