The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has opened discussions with Ghana, Tanzania and Rwanda over a possible international friendly during the September international window.

Egypt are seeking to finalise a preparatory fixture as they begin planning for the next phase of international football, with the three African nations currently under consideration as potential opponents.

Sources indicate that talks remain at an early stage and no agreement has yet been reached with any of the respective football associations. A final decision is expected once negotiations on key details, including the date and venue, are concluded.

The proposed match would offer Egypt an opportunity to maintain competitive momentum and assess their squad ahead of upcoming continental assignments.

For Ghana, a potential meeting with the Pharaohs would provide another valuable test for head coach Carlos Queiroz as he continues to shape the Black Stars following their campaign at the 2026 Fifa World Cup.

Ghana reached the knockout stage of the tournament after finishing third in their group before suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32.

A friendly against Egypt would give Queiroz a further chance to evaluate players and refine his plans ahead of the Black Stars’ next competitive fixtures.

The September international break is expected to be particularly significant for African nations, with preparations intensifying ahead of the start of the qualification campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which is scheduled to begin later that month.

Egypt are therefore keen to secure suitable opposition during the window, with Ghana, Tanzania and Rwanda among the options being considered by the EFA.

Should discussions with Ghana progress successfully, the fixture would pit two of Africa’s most successful football nations against each other and provide an early gauge of their readiness for future competitive challenges.

For now, however, the EFA is continuing talks with all three associations before making a final decision on its preferred opponent.
