World Cup 2026: Mexico Can Beat England – Aguirre

By Okiki Oluwasegun

Mexico head coach Javier Aguirre has insisted that playing at the high altitude of the Estadio Azteca will not guarantee his side victory over England in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 encounter.

The experienced manager believes the match will be decided by the performances of both teams on the pitch rather than the conditions in Mexico City, where the stadium sits more than 2,200 metres above sea level. Although many observers have suggested the environment could benefit the hosts, Aguirre remains focused on football matters.

He acknowledged the quality within England’s squad, describing the Three Lions as physically strong and filled with top-class players competing at the highest level.

According to him, Mexico must produce one of their finest displays if they hope to progress to the quarter-finals.

Aguirre stressed that football remains an even contest regardless of the venue, noting that both teams will have the same objective of scoring goals and defending well.

He added that his players understand the magnitude of the occasion and are fully prepared for the challenge.

The Mexican coach also revealed he has been working to keep his squad grounded despite the growing excitement among supporters.

While confidence is high following Mexico’s performances in the tournament, he warned that overconfidence could prove costly against an opponent of England’s calibre.

Despite the difficult task ahead, Aguirre expressed complete belief in his team’s ability. He maintained that the contest would likely be decided by which side commits fewer mistakes, insisting Mexico has every chance of securing a famous victory if they execute their game plan effectively.
