The reconciliation committee of the Rainbow Coalition has assured members of the Rivers State political family that no individual will be victimised or discriminated against over past political disagreements.

This assurance followed the committee’s second meeting with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Sunday, as efforts intensify to restore peace and unity within the state’s political structure.

The latest meeting was attended by Ehie Edison, a former Chief of Staff to Governor Fubara and a prominent ally of the governor.

Chairman of the committee, Senator Magnus Abe, said the meeting was aimed at discussing practical measures to achieve lasting peace among members of the political family.

Abe said the committee had held several engagements to develop a framework that would enable members to work together despite their previous differences.

According to him, the reconciliation process had recorded significant progress and was intended to provide clarity to Rivers residents on the direction of the state’s political affairs.

“I’m sure that Rivers people will be very curious to understand exactly what we have been talking about,” Abe said.

He added that the development would be “very good news for all Rivers people who are interested in the unity, progress and prosperity of Rivers State.”

“We are all in agreement and we have made very good progress.

“Our coming together signals a significant shift in the political atmosphere of the state and we believe that all well-meaning Rivers people will be very happy to see that finally, the peace that all Rivers people crave for is here,” he said.

Abe also stressed that members of the political family would be treated equally and with respect, regardless of their past political affiliations or disagreements.

Also speaking, the All Progressives Congress, APC, South-South Zonal Publicity Secretary, Dr Samuel Nwanosike, thanked Fubara for granting the committee an opportunity to engage with him.

Nwanosike described the two meetings held so far as successful, saying they had demonstrated that the political family was closing ranks.

“This shows clearly to the people of Rivers State that the family is back; sincerely back and soon, they will see the working of the Rainbow Coalition,” he said.

He further assured Rivers residents that the coalition would work towards delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.

Another stakeholder, Chief Ambrose Nwuzi, said members who support Governor Fubara had agreed to embrace peace, arguing that reconciliation remained the best path forward.

Nwuzi described the previous disagreements among the political actors as a normal occurrence in human relationships and urged stakeholders to move beyond them.

Other members of the delegation included the APC governorship candidate in Rivers State, Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, among other political stakeholders.

The reconciliation committee was constituted by the Rainbow Coalition led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, following Fubara’s announcement of his return to his former political family.
