Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has dismissed speculation linking Vinícius Júnior with a move to Arsenal, insisting the Brazilian winger is simply using the transfer rumours to strengthen his negotiating position with Real Madrid.

Speaking on his Obi One Podcast, Mikel expressed confidence that Vinícius has no intention of leaving the Spanish giants.

According to the former Nigeria international, the ongoing reports surrounding Arsenal’s interest are unlikely to develop into a serious transfer because both the player and Real Madrid remain committed to each other.

Mikel argued that while Arsenal are one of Europe’s biggest clubs, Real Madrid still represents the highest level of club football for many players.

For that reason, he believes Vinícius has little incentive to leave the Santiago Bernabéu, especially at this stage of his career.

The former midfielder suggested the transfer talk could be a strategic move aimed at helping the Brazilian secure an improved contract from the La Liga champions.

He maintained that such situations are common in modern football, where negotiations are often influenced by interest from other top clubs.

Although he ruled out the possibility of the move, Mikel admitted that if Arsenal somehow managed to sign the winger, it would rank among the most remarkable transfers in Premier League history.

He described Vinícius as one of the world’s elite attackers whose arrival would dramatically strengthen any squad.

Mikel also touched on Vinícius’ previous working relationship with José Mourinho, noting that professional disagreements rarely prevent successful partnerships in football.

He believes any past issues would not affect the player’s future if circumstances ever brought them together again.

For now, however, Mikel expects Vinícius to remain in Madrid, where he believes both the club and the player are focused on extending their successful partnership rather than pursuing a sensational summer exit.
