Nigeria’s sprint hurdles star Tobi Amusan has revealed that an injury sustained before the 2026 Commonwealth Games played a major role in her inability to retain the women’s 100m hurdles title in Glasgow.

The reigning world record holder settled for the bronze medal after clocking 12.60 seconds in a highly competitive final.

It marked the end of her remarkable reign as Commonwealth champion, having previously won gold medals at the 2018 Gold Coast Games and the 2022 edition in Birmingham.

Bahamian athlete Devynne Charlton emerged as the new champion with a winning time of 12.33 seconds, while Jamaica’s Megan Simmons secured the silver medal after finishing in 12.41 seconds.

Speaking after the race, Amusan disclosed that she entered the competition carrying a knee problem caused by a fall during her training camp.

Despite the setback, she expressed gratitude for being able to compete and finish on the podium.

The Nigerian hurdler admitted she had concerns about her fitness before the event but was determined to give her best regardless of the circumstances.

Her resilience ensured she still left Glasgow with a medal, even if it was not the gold she had hoped to defend.

Amusan remains one of Africa’s most accomplished track athletes, and her latest performance highlights her determination to compete despite physical challenges.
