Tinubu Rebuilding South-East To Heal Wounds Of Civil War— Gov. Soludo

By Damilare Adeleye

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra state has said President Bola Tinubu is pursuing the reconstruction of the South-East through critical infrastructure projects aimed at addressing decades of neglect and healing the lingering scars of the Nigerian Civil War.

Soludo made the remarks on Thursday while reacting to the Federal Government’s approval of the design and procurement of two strategic federal roads linking Anambra State with neighbouring states.

The projects include the Otuocha–Anam–Abaji Road, which will connect Anambra to Kogi State, and the Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube Road, linking Anambra and Imo states to the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway.

In a post on his X handle, the governor described the approvals as a landmark development for the South-East, saying they demonstrated Tinubu’s commitment to tackling the region’s long-standing infrastructure deficit.

“I can’t contain my joy and that of my people regarding the great news from DIKESIMBA Anambra; DIKESIMBA NDIGBO, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Soludo wrote.

He added, “Certainly, President Tinubu has a date with history, and even more so with the South-East. He continues to demonstrate his avowed commitment to orchestrating the reconstruction of the South-East, thereby finally healing the wounds of the Civil War’’

According to the governor, the latest approvals build on what he described as “unprecedented, foundational infrastructural rebirths” already taking place across the region under the current administration.

Soludo revealed that the road projects followed discussions he held with President Tinubu during a meeting on July 1. He said the Minister of Works, David Umahi, contacted him the following day to request details of the proposed roads.

“I met the President on Wednesday, July 1. The next day, the Honourable Minister for Works and Infrastructure, our own ever-productive and beloved Senator Dave Umahi, contacted me to send him the details of the roads we had repeatedly discussed,” he said.

The governor said he forwarded the proposals on July 3 and was informed on Tuesday that the President had approved both roads for design and procurement.

“Today, July 15, I received a message from the Minister of Works that the President has graciously approved both roads for design and procurement. What can I say?” he added.

Soludo described the roads as transformative projects that would strengthen economic and social connectivity among the South-East, South-South and North-Central geopolitical zones.

“These two roads constitute critical game-changers for the South-East, South-South and North-Central. The man who tamed the Atlantic Ocean in Lagos is certainly redefining politics, and the South-East won’t be the same again,” he stated.

The governor also said the approvals underscored the importance of constructive engagement and collaboration in governance.

“For me personally, this is why politics makes sense to me: working collaboratively and building alliances to achieve concrete results that improve the lives of the people,” he said.
