Tinubu Nominates Oyedele for Finance Role and Abe for Petroleum Commission

President Bola Tinubu has forwarded important nomination requests to the Senate for confirmation alongside the statutory budget proposal for the Federal Capital Territory in 2026.
The nominations include Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance. Oyedele previously chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms since 2023 and brings extensive expertise in tax policy to replace Doris Uzoka-Anite in the role.
Another key appointment targets the energy sector with Magnus Abe proposed as Chairman of the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission. Abe a former senator from Rivers State with experience overseeing energy matters joins two commissioner nominees to strengthen regulatory oversight in upstream oil operations.
In the area of sports and health Mainasara Illo receives nomination as Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Anti-Doping Centre. Illo a veteran sports broadcaster who led Nigeria’s successful bids for international events including the 2030 Commonwealth Games aims to enhance anti-doping efforts and compliance.
In a separate letter President Tinubu presented the N460.7 billion statutory budget for the Federal Capital Territory in 2026 to the Senate. The allocation prioritizes infrastructure development particularly in Abuja’s high-profile districts to support ongoing urban growth and service delivery.
These developments reflect the administration’s focus on fiscal reforms regulatory efficiency in critical sectors and sustained capital city advancement as the nation progresses through 2026. The Senate now reviews the proposals for confirmation and budget passage.
