Tielemans Signs For Manchester United In £36m Move
Manchester United have strengthened their midfield again this summer with the capture of Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.
The deal, worth £36m according to Sky Sports, sees the Belgian join on a five-year contract at Old Trafford.
He becomes United’s second midfield addition of the window, following the £50m arrival of Andrey Santos from Chelsea.
At 29, Tielemans arrives with plenty of Premier League and European experience. He spent three years at Villa Park after joining on a free from Leicester in 2023.
In that time he played 134 games and scored 10 goals. Under Unai Emery, Villa enjoyed a major rise reaching the Champions League twice, getting to the quarter-finals, and lifting the Europa League last season. Tielemans even opened the scoring in that final against Freiburg.
Before his Villa stint, he enjoyed silverware with Leicester, where he won the FA Cup and Community Shield.
Speaking after signing, Tielemans said it was a proud moment to represent United. He described it as the reward for years of hard work since he first started playing, and said the club’s drive to win major trophies matched his own ambition.
He also comes in off the back of international duty. This summer he captained Belgium at the World Cup, featuring five times and scoring twice in a 3-2 last-32 victory over Senegal.
United will be hoping his composure, passing range, and big-game experience add control to a midfield that is clearly being rebuilt for a push at the biggest prizes.
