Thomas Partey set to join Saudi side Al Shabab on one-year deal
Ghana midfielder Thomas Teye Partey is close to completing a move to Saudi Pro League club Al Shabab during the current summer transfer window.
The 33-year-old has arrived in Riyadh and is expected to undergo a mandatory medical before finalising a one-year contract with the Saudi outfit.
Partey is set to join Al Shabab as a free agent following the expiry of his contract with Spanish side Villarreal, where he spent the 2025/26 season.
The move will mark another chapter in the midfielder’s career, having previously played for Atletico Madrid and Arsenal.
During his time at Arsenal, Partey made 130 appearances and scored nine goals before leaving the Premier League club in 2025 to join Villarreal on a free transfer.
He made 25 appearances across all competitions during his only season with the Spanish club.
Partey remains an important member of the Ghana national team and featured at the 2026 Fifa World Cup in North America.
The midfielder played in three matches as the Black Stars reached the Round of 32 before their campaign ended.
A move to Al Shabab would allow Partey to maintain his competitive level as Ghana prepare for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, which is due to begin in September.
Ghana missed out on the previous AFCON tournament and will be hoping to return to the competition, with Partey expected to provide experience and leadership as the Black Stars begin their qualification campaign.
