The individual arrested over the theft of money belonging to members of Nigeria’s Super Falcons during the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco has been sentenced to six months in prison, according to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The incident took place at the team’s hotel in Casablanca shortly before the players travelled to Rabat for their opening Group C fixture.

Several members of the squad reportedly discovered that cash had gone missing from their rooms, sparking concern within the camp.

Among the affected players were captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defender Michelle Alozie, and midfielder Esther Okoronkwo.

Okoronkwo later revealed that more than $1,000 had been stolen and expressed disappointment with how the hotel initially responded after the matter was reported.

Following her public comments, the midfielder became the target of racist messages and online abuse from some social media users, drawing widespread criticism from football supporters and officials.

The NFF confirmed that law enforcement authorities arrested the suspect, who admitted responsibility for the theft. The stolen money was recovered and returned to the players before the court handed the offender a six-month prison sentence.

The federation also strongly condemned the racist attacks directed at Okoronkwo, stressing that discrimination has no place in football or society. It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the welfare, dignity, and safety of all national team players.

Despite the unfortunate incident, the Super Falcons have remained focused on their WAFCON campaign, determined to put the distraction behind them as they pursue another continental title.

The team continues preparations for its remaining group-stage matches with hopes of advancing deep into the tournament.
