Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have foiled an attempted mass abduction along the Gummi–Sokoto highway and rescued 27 kidnapped victims during coordinated operations across Sokoto and Zamfara states.

The successful operations were disclosed on Wednesday by security analyst Bakatsine in a post shared on X, where he said the troops recorded the feat over the past two days as part of ongoing military efforts to curb insecurity in Nigeria’s North-West.

According to him, the soldiers responded swiftly after receiving intelligence about an attempted mass abduction along the Gummi–Sokoto highway, confronting the suspected kidnappers in a fierce gun battle.

The armed attackers were reportedly overwhelmed by the troops’ response and fled the scene before they could abduct commuters.

Bakatsine added that troops also carried out separate rescue operations in Sokoto and Zamfara, securing the freedom of 27 people who had been kidnapped in earlier incidents.

He said all the rescued victims have since been reunited with their families.

“Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued 27 kidnapped victims in separate operations across Sokoto and Zamfara States over the past two days. The operations also thwarted an attempted mass abduction along the Gummi-Sokoto highway, where troops responded swiftly, engaged the attackers and forced them to flee.

“Several livestock and motorcycles were also recovered during the operations, while all rescued victims have since been reunited with their families,” Bakatsine wrote.

The security analyst further disclosed that the troops recovered several motorcycles and livestock abandoned by the fleeing criminals during the operations.

Commending the soldiers for the success, Bakatsine praised their professionalism, courage and dedication to safeguarding communities in the region.

“Kudos to the troops for their courage, professionalism and continued sacrifices in keeping communities safe,” he added.
