Belgium will begin the search for a new national team manager after confirming that Rudi Garcia will step down when his contract expires at the end of July.

The Royal Belgian Football Association announced that both parties had agreed not to continue their partnership following discussions after the team’s World Cup campaign.

Garcia’s departure comes shortly after Belgium’s run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup ended with a quarter-final defeat to eventual champions Spain.

Although the Red Devils failed to progress beyond the last eight, the French coach leaves with a respectable record and several positive achievements during his time in charge.

Since taking over in early 2025, Garcia guided Belgium through a period of transition while maintaining the team’s status among Europe’s leading football nations.

He also ensured the Red Devils retained their place in the top tier of the UEFA Nations League, providing a solid platform for the next manager.

Reflecting on his exit, Garcia thanked the Belgian federation, his coaching staff, players and supporters for their trust and commitment over the past 18 months.

He expressed satisfaction with the work accomplished and wished the national team success in the future.

Across 20 matches as Belgium coach, Garcia recorded 12 victories, six draws and only two defeats, highlighting the consistency of his tenure despite falling short of winning major silverware.

The Belgian federation has not yet revealed who will succeed the 62-year-old. With important UEFA Nations League fixtures against Italy and France approaching later this year, attention will now focus on appointing a coach capable of building on Garcia’s work and leading Belgium into the next stage of its international journey.
