Refund GH¢60 deductions in two weeks — Service personnel to NASPA
The Concerned National Service Personnel Association has given the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) a two-week deadline to refund the GH¢60 deducted from the allowances of national service personnel, insisting that the recent suspension of the deductions does not resolve the matter.
Addressing a press conference in Accra, the President of the association, Samuel Ye-largi, said NASPA’s decision to halt the deductions falls short of addressing concerns over transparency, accountability and the use of funds already collected.
He called on NASPA to immediately refund the GH¢60 deducted from service personnel nationwide and publish the total amount collected, together with a comprehensive financial report detailing how the funds have been utilised.
The association also raised concerns over the compulsory GH¢100 deduction for the purchase of NASPA cloth, arguing that the long-standing nature of the practice does not automatically make it lawful, transparent or justifiable.
According to the group, NASPA must explain the legal basis for the mandatory deduction and disclose whether service personnel were consulted before the decision was implemented.
The association further demanded details of the procurement process used to select the suppliers of the cloth, the total value of the contract, the reasons behind the change of the original supplier, and whether the contract documents and procurement records would be made available to the public.
It warned that the matter would remain unresolved unless NASPA refunds the deducted funds and provides the requested information within the two-week ultimatum.
“What we are demanding here is the refund of the 100 cedis which was deducted from our allowance to cater for cloth, and we are calling on the NASPA to immediately refund the 60 cedis that they deducted from the poor NSS person,” Mr Ye-largi said.
