Puerto Rican Boxer Prichard Colon Passes Away At 33 After Long Health Battle
Puerto Rican boxer Prichard Colon has died at the age of 33 after spending years dealing with severe injuries sustained during a professional fight.
Colon’s death was announced by the World Boxing Organization (WBO), which paid tribute to the former boxer and remembered him for his courage and determination both inside and outside the ring.
The boxer’s life changed dramatically following his October 2015 bout against Terrel Williams.
During the fight, Colon received several blows to the back of his head, suffering serious injuries that ultimately left him in a persistent vegetative state.
Before the devastating incident, Colon had built an impressive professional record and was regarded as one of Puerto Rico’s promising young boxing talents.
He entered his fight against Williams undefeated after winning all 16 of his previous professional bouts.
His career, however, was abruptly cut short by the injuries he sustained that night. What followed was a prolonged health battle that kept him away from the sport he had dedicated much of his life to.
The WBO described Colon as “a warrior until the very end,” highlighting the strength and fighting spirit he displayed throughout his years of adversity.
His death at just 33 has renewed attention on the dangers professional boxers face and the potentially devastating consequences of repeated head trauma.
Colon’s story remains a painful reminder of the risks associated with combat sports, particularly the lasting effects that serious brain injuries can have on athletes and their families.
