The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has scheduled the vetting of aspirants contesting its 2026 National Officers Elections for Monday, August 31 to Thursday, September 3, 2026.

The announcement follows the close of nominations on Saturday, August 22, with 50 aspirants purchasing nomination forms to contest the nine national officer positions.

Aspirants are expected to submit their completed nomination forms and accompanying documents between Sunday, August 23 and Saturday, August 29.

Vetting Schedule
In a statement signed by the Chairman of the NPP’s National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC), Frederick Opare-Ansah, the party clarified that purchasing a nomination form does not automatically qualify an aspirant as a valid candidate.

According to the committee, aspirants must first undergo and successfully clear the vetting process before their candidacy can be confirmed.

The vetting exercise will begin on Monday, August 31, with aspirants contesting the positions of National Chairman, General Secretary and National Treasurer.

On Tuesday, September 1, attention will shift to candidates for National Vice Chairperson, National Organiser and National Youth Organiser.

The exercise will continue on Wednesday, September 2, with aspirants for the National Communications Director, National Nasara Organiser and National Women Organiser positions.

The committee is expected to conclude the vetting process on Thursday, September 3.

Balloting Date Yet to Be Fixed
The NPP said it has not yet set a date for balloting because the filing, vetting and appeals processes must first be completed.

The committee explained that announcing an election date before resolving all eligibility issues could result in a postponement or suspension if an unresolved appeal affects the candidature of any aspirant.

It therefore said a firm date for the elections would be announced after the vetting and appeals processes have sufficiently settled the final list of candidates.

The NOEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting the 2026 National Officers Elections fairly, transparently and impartially in accordance with the NPP’s constitution and applicable electoral regulations.

Aspirants for National Positions
Five aspirants have picked nomination forms to contest the National Chairman position. They are Paul Afoko, John Boadu, Boakye Agyarko, Sammy Crabbe and Bernard Antwi Boasiako.

For the General Secretary position, Eugene Boakye Antwi, Sylvester Tetteh and Charles Dwamena will challenge incumbent Justin Kodua Frimpong, who is seeking a second term.

The National Vice Chairperson race has attracted 13 aspirants, including Henry Nana Boakye, who is seeking a new position after serving as National Organiser; Kojo Fosu Boadu; Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hameed, a former Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority; and Samuel Pyne, a former Metropolitan Chief Executive of Kumasi.

Others are Richard Ahiagbah, who is moving from the National Communications Director position; Abena Pokua Boaitey Amoah; Alhaji Masawudu Osman, popularly known as Chairman Buga Buga, who is seeking re-election; Yaa Amponsah Frimpong; George Kwabena Abankwah Yeboah; Horma Miez; Richard Oti Aboagye; Bright Esselfie Kumi; and Nana Akomea, a former National Communications Director.

The National Treasurer position has attracted Alfred Kojo Thompson, Collins Nuntwiri Nuamah, Tahiru Issahaku Moomin and Ahmed Ruka Saida.

Eight aspirants are seeking the National Organiser position. They are Glover Daniel Nii Kwartei, Salam Mustapha, Kwame Prempeh, Archibald Korletey Gamor, Emmanuel Korsi Bodja, Nana Kwadjo Agyei Yeboah, Daniel Agyenim Boateng and Ali Maiga Halidu.

For National Women Organiser, Mavis Hawa Koomson will contest Perpetual Ekua Lomokie Akwada and Safia Mohammed.

The National Youth Organiser race will feature Clement Opoku Gyamfi, Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah, Michael Osei Boateng, Vera Oye Bram-Larbi, Kumi Alfred Ababio and Abanga Fuseini Yakubu.

Five aspirants have picked forms for the National Nasara Organiser position: Issaka Muazo Kunata, Salim Bamba, Razak Tahiru Maiga, Awal Mohammed and Mohammed Ali Suraj.

The National Communications Director position will be contested by Dennis Miracles Aboagye and Evans Kodo.

The outcome of the vetting and any subsequent appeals will determine the final list of candidates eligible to participate in the NPP’s 2026 National Officers Elections.
