Popular Nollywood actor, Taiwo Hassan, widely known as Ogogo, has died at the age of 65.

The veteran Yoruba actor’s death was confirmed on Sunday by multiple sources, including Seun Oloketuyi, founder of Best of Nollywood.

Oloketuyi announced the development in a social media post, stating, “Taiwo Hassan Ogogo is dead. He finally lost the battle of life.”

The development was also followed by an emotional reaction from Ogogo’s daughter, Kaira Taiwo, who was seen crying during an Instagram live session on Sunday while expressing disbelief over her father’s death.

Veteran actor and filmmaker, Saheed Balogun, also mourned Ogogo in an Instagram post.

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. You can rest now my brother Taiwo Hassan Ogogo. May Almighty Allah guide you through Aljannah. This is truly painful,” Balogun wrote.

Ogogo’s death came days after his daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, publicly sought medical assistance for their father, who had been battling stage-four cancer.

On Monday, August 17, the sisters appealed for medical advice and support, revealing the severity of their father’s condition.

According to Kaira, doctors had informed the family that chemotherapy could no longer be administered because of his deteriorating health.

The family subsequently explored other treatment options, including specialised medical procedures and traditional remedies, in a bid to save the veteran actor.

Ogogo was one of the prominent figures in Yoruba-language Nollywood, with a career spanning several decades. He became widely recognised for his roles in numerous Yoruba films and his contributions to the growth and development of the Nigerian film industry.

His death has triggered an outpouring of grief among colleagues, fans and admirers across the Nigerian entertainment industry.
