President John Dramani Mahama has urged the newly installed Regent of Dagbon, Kampakuya Naa Yakubu Abukari, to uphold the legacy of the late Ya‑Na Abukari Mahama II by championing peace, unity and development across the traditional area.

The President delivered the message on Friday, July 31, during the installation ceremony in Yendi, following the passing of the Overlord of Dagbon on July 11, 2026.

Mr Mahama praised the people of Dagbon for the patience, maturity and unity they demonstrated after the death of the late Ya‑Na, describing their conduct as a testament to the kingdom’s resilience and strength.

He encouraged residents to continue safeguarding the peace and cohesion that have defined Dagbon in recent years, while urging the new Regent to build on the progress achieved under his predecessor.

President Mahama highlighted the late Ya‑Na’s pivotal role in promoting reconciliation, stability and development, and called on Kampakuya Naa Yakubu Abukari to continue on that path.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working closely with the Dagbon Traditional Council and the Regent to advance development initiatives started under the late Overlord.
