Labour Party Issues 48-Hour Ultimatum to Peter Obi to Resign-Over Coalition Involvement

By ISAAC DANIEL
Lagos Nigeria – The Labour Party has given its former presidential candidate, Peter Gregory Obi, 48 hours to formally resign his membership following his affiliation with a new coalition party.
The ultimatum comes as the Labour Party distances itself from the coalition, describing its members as “power mongers” driven by self-interest rather than the welfare of Nigerians.
In a press statement issued and signed by the National Publicity Secretary of ,Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh, the Labour Party criticized the coalition as an assembly of “old, recycled, desperate, and frustrated politicians” incapable of delivering the promised “new Nigeria.” The party accused Obi of holding “nocturnal meetings” to persuade Labour Party members to defect to his new political platform, noting that several members have resisted these overtures.
The Labour Party reiterated its refusal to join the coalition, warning Nigerians that the coalition’s vision is a “ruse” led by individuals responsible for Nigeria’s past mismanagement.
“Desperate politicians cannot birth a new Nigeria,” Ifoh stated, emphasizing that the party remains committed to its own vision for the country, driven by the aspirations of Nigeria’s youth, who constitute nearly 70% of the population.
The party further condemned members with “dual agendas” and deceptive personas, vowing not to tolerate individuals who claim allegiance to the Labour Party while engaging with the coalition. Ifoh called on all members to remain loyal and maintain the party’s structure ahead of future elections, positioning the Labour Party as the true vehicle for achieving a new Nigeria.
