Jonathan Denies N500bn Offer To Oppose Peter Obi In 2027

By Kingsley Ike

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has officially refuted claims that he was offered ₦500 billion to contest the 2027 presidential election to split votes in the South-South region. Describing the reports as false, Jonathan stated the narrative was designed to draw him into unnecessary political controversy.

In a press statement issued by his media adviser, Dr. Ikechukwu Eze, the former president dismissed the allegations as baseless as the 2027 election cycle approaches. The statement aimed to dispel rumors suggesting he would challenge candidates to influence the South-South voting bloc.

According to him, the claims that he revealed receiving a N500 billion inducement to challenge Obi lacked the basic elements of credible journalism.

He noted that it failed to identify when or where the alleged statement was made, who supposedly made the offer, or any witnesses who could substantiate the claim.

He further stated that the story bears all the hallmarks of fabricated content. He explained that it was deliberately designed to mislead the public and fuel political tension ahead of the 2027 general elections .

“Jonathan was never involved in the ‘N500 billion offer to divide the South’s votes against Peter Obi in the 2027 general elections.”

He urged Nigerians to disregard the report and verify sensational political claims before sharing them.

“The build-up to every election season often witnesses a surge in misinformation and fake attributions,” Eze said, cautioning that such reports should not be treated as verified facts.
