Kelechi Iheanacho enjoyed an impressive start to his career at Bursaspor after contributing directly to both goals in the club’s 2-0 away win over Bodrum in their opening fixture of the 2026/27 Turkish second-tier season.

The Nigerian striker, who joined Bursaspor during the summer on a free transfer, wasted little time making his presence felt. Iheanacho broke the deadlock in the 27th minute with a composed finish, giving his new side an early advantage.

He later turned provider shortly before half-time, creating the opportunity for Bursaspor’s second goal and helping the visitors establish a comfortable lead going into the break.

The performance comes after a productive spell at Celtic last season. Despite dealing with injury setbacks, Iheanacho found the net nine times and contributed to the Scottish club’s successful domestic campaign.

His performances had reportedly led Celtic to consider keeping him beyond his loan spell, but discussions failed to produce an agreement. Bursaspor subsequently secured his services on a three-year deal.

The result gives Bursaspor an encouraging start as they target promotion to the Turkish Super Lig.

Iheanacho has also made promotion his primary objective, explaining that the club’s ambition to return to the top division and eventually compete in European football influenced his decision to join.

With a goal and an assist already recorded, the 29-year-old will hope his strong beginning continues throughout the campaign.
