The Chief Executive Officer of Databank, Kojo Addae Mensah, beleives Ignatius Osei-Fosu would have been a suitable candidate to have taken over as Asante Kotoko head coach, insisting the young tactician would have offered the club a fresh direction.

His comments come after the Porcupine Warriors appointed South African trainer Eric Tinkler as their new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.

Speaking in an interview with Luv FM, Addae Mensah argued that Kotoko’s options among locally available coaches were limited, with many of the names linked to the position having already had previous spells with the club.

“Whoever you mention would be a recycle. All those who are more or less available would have worked with Kotoko before. Frimpong Manso is available and has worked with Kotoko before. Maxwell Konadu has worked with Kotoko before. Everybody you mention has been there before,” he said.

The Databank CEO acknowledged that some may argue the club had exhausted its local options, but he believes Osei-Fosu represented a different and promising alternative due to his recent experience on the international stage.

“So yes, to that extent, you could say we’ve run out of options. We don’t really have options. But I know Ignatius is working with Sudan, and I can bet that if we sit down and talk to Kwesi Appiah, he would allow us to have Ignatius,” he stated.

Osei-Fosu, who currently serves as assistant coach to Sudan national team head coach Kwesi Appiah, previously revealed in March 2026 that he would be open to taking charge of Kotoko if the timing was right.

Addae Mensah further highlighted Osei-Fosu’s long working relationship with Appiah as a major advantage, saying the experience gained from that partnership would have prepared him for the pressure and expectations that come with managing one of Ghana’s biggest clubs.

“I would have considered Ignatius, especially considering his exposure and having worked with Kwesi for so long,” he added.

Kotoko eventually settled on Tinkler as the man to lead the club into the new season, as they seek to challenge for domestic honours after a difficult campaign.
